About Chasah

At Chasah, we believe that God’s work often begins in the humble and unexpected. Our story is one of small steps, simple beginnings, and a faithful God who lights the path forward—one step at a time.

Five years ago, during our 10th wedding anniversary, Ashley asked me a profound question:

“What’s the next big thing for our family? How can I support you the way you’ve supported me during these first 10 years?”

After some hesitation, I answered honestly: “I think God is calling us to focus on our neighbors.”

At first, this idea didn’t feel exciting—it seemed small, even mundane compared to the big, transformative work we had been doing through Ashley’s nonprofit. But we sensed God was in it, nudging us toward a deeper purpose, even if we couldn’t yet see the full picture.

At Chasah, we believe every gathering is an opportunity to experience God’s presence, grow in faith, and build each other up in love. Church isn’t about passively attending; it’s about actively participating as part of the body of Christ.

The Bible outlines that every believer has gifts to share when we gather. Whether it’s a song, a lesson, or an encouraging word, each of us is called to contribute in unique ways to strengthen and uplift one another.

The Bible lists many spiritual gifts, and gatherings are an opportunity to put them into practice. Here are just a few examples:

• Teaching: Sharing insights or lessons from scripture.

• Encouragement: Uplifting someone with kind words or affirmations.

• Generosity: Offering support to those in need or contributing to the community.

• Wisdom: Providing godly advice to someone facing a challenge.

• Hospitality: Welcoming and hosting others with love and kindness.

• Healing: Praying for physical, emotional, or spiritual restoration.

• Creative Expression: Sharing a meaningful song, psalm, or work of art inspired by your faith.

• Prophecy: Speaking words of truth or clarity to encourage and guide the church.

Questions to Reflect On

Before coming to a gathering, take a moment to ask yourself:

• How can I contribute to building up others today?

• Is there someone here who could use my encouragement or support?

• Do I have a testimony or lesson to share that could inspire others?

• Am I prepared to listen to the Spirit’s prompting and act on it?

Living as the Body of Christ

At Chasah, our gatherings are about more than attending—they’re about actively participating as members of the body of Christ. Each person matters, and every gift is valuable.

When we gather, we’re reminded that:

• Love binds us together.

• Unity strengthens us.

• Serving one another reflects Christ’s heart.

Come ready to engage, encourage, and grow—because church is a place where faith becomes action, and everyone has a role to play.

The Bible gives us many examples to guide how we should approach our time together:

1. Using Our Giftings

• In 1 Corinthians 14:26, we are reminded that when we gather, each person has something to offer—a song, a lesson, a revelation, or a word of encouragement. Whatever your gift, it’s meant to strengthen the church.

2. Encouraging and Building Up

• Hebrews 10:24-25 calls us to think intentionally about how to spur each other on to love and good works. Gathering together is not just about being present—it’s about encouraging one another as we walk in faith.

3. Serving with Love

• 1 Peter 4:7-10 reminds us to keep our love for one another fervent, to show hospitality without judgment, and to serve as stewards of God’s grace. Love and service are at the heart of what we do when we gather.

When we come together, it’s not just the role of the pastor or leader to contribute—everyone is invited to participate. Here are some ways you might feel led to strengthen and encourage others during a gathering:

• Make Someone Feel Welcome: Is there someone you can greet warmly or help feel at home?

• Share a Story: Do you have a testimony, insight, or recent experience of sharing your faith?

• Mentor or Encourage: Is there someone in need of guidance or support in their spiritual journey?

• Teach or Discuss Scripture: Do you have a passage of scripture or an insight you’d like to share?

• Practical Assistance: Is there a way you can lend a hand or meet a practical need today?

• Offer Words of Encouragement: Do you have words that could uplift or inspire someone?

When we moved into a new neighborhood, Ashley felt led to pray that our home would become “a gathering place for the church.” At the time, we weren’t sure what this meant. We had been hosting and leading small groups for years, and leaving our church family of many years seemed unimaginable.

But this prayer sparked a new journey—one of learning about house churches and understanding the beauty of how the early Church met in homes. What once seemed strange and unfamiliar soon became a calling that brought us peace and confidence.

Our journey has been shaped by a deep desire to return to the simplicity and intentionality of the early Church. Meeting in homes creates space for:

  • Deep Relationships: Everyone is known, seen, and valued as part of a spiritual family.
  • Active Participation: Each person uses their unique gifts to build up the body of Christ.
  • Genuine Community: Love, unity, and encouragement are at the center of all we do.

This is not about creating a flashy program or a large organization. It’s about faithfully following God’s call to create a refuge—a Chasah—where people can encounter His love and grace in a personal way.

We are incredibly excited to see what God will do as we step into this new season. It’s not without challenges, but we trust that God will continue to guide us, just as He has every step of the way.

We ask for your prayers as we prepare to launch this church and for the neighbors and friends God will bring into this community. If you feel called to learn more, participate, or simply encourage us with your story, we would love to connect.

Let’s walk this journey together as we create a place of refuge for those seeking God’s love and grace.
